Galli-Curci, now there's a name that conjures up a memory. When I first came to this country a long time ago I stayed for a short while with an elderly widowed uncle in Jackson Heights, NY. Most nights we'd eat at the corner diner, and there was this one woman customer with the loudest voice you ever heard. When she spoke, they could hear her in New Jersey. We'd enter the diner and if we heard this woman's voice my uncle would invariably say: "Galli-Curci's here tonight. Whatever you do, don't ask her for an encore."
Seriously, check out Youtube for Nadine Sierra. There's a complete Rigoletto on it, with modern dress. The role of Rigoletto is sung by Leo Nucci, and he and Nadine Sierra make a terrific father-daughter pairing, especially in the Vendetta duet which ends the second act.
