Shouldn't the ATF be checking for defaced or ghost guns?
Maybe look for stolen guns and work on returning them to the owner?
Rhetorical question no government agents will work that hard.

I had quite a few stolen in 2014 in a burglary where they took the entire damned safe. I have absolutely zero faith that I'll ever see them if they are in fact recovered.

You won’t. I once had an AK stolen. After 2 years of hearing nothing, I called the county to check if it was ever recovered. It was in the next town. I called them, & they said “ come on down, & pick it up”. So I did. They said they contacted the county where I reported it stolen, but the officer I reported the theft to had retired, but his replacement wasn’t notified to call me. Poor excuse. GARY.

Has anyone bothered to ask the Amish to quit carrying all of these assault weapons of mass destruction at the beach? /s

With that many guns in thug hands there have to be a lot of stolen guns. Will they ever see their original owners again?

:? :(
I was thinking the exact same thing. You know there had to be a ton of stolen guns in that pile considering the people they got them from. Not a racist remark, it's just the facts based on, oh hell you know what I'm saying. So where are the arrests for stolen guns by these thugs. As a matter of fact. If they did not have a CWL why weren't they arrested for that also. Because if that were you or I in Panama Beach or Miami carrying without a CWL they'd throw our butt in jail. Given those areas history with the 2nd amendment and what they've done to people legally carrying.

I would say that I'm surprised, but I'm not. As you said the officer retiring should not have had anything to do with them contacting you. But we all know LE is our friends and follow the same laws we do.

Man that's a nightmare  was the safe bolted down into the floor and wall. I'd still be crying over that  but cops are our friends and would contact us to give our stolen guns back.....right... :? .

It was bolted to the floor and hidden. Even my wife didn't know about its existence. Guess who else besides me did? The dipshit subcontractors that replaced our flooring 2 weeks prior. Guess who called in sick to their job on the day of the burglary? Yeah, 2 of the scumbags who put in flooring. Found a fresh croc print next to the gate I had put in the night before, and I don't wear crocs. Guess who did? Yeah, those asshats. Guess who drove a red Ram pickup like the one seen loitering 6 houses down the morning of the burglary? Yeah, those buttheads again. Someone was arrested a few days later with one of the stolen pistols. He was a multi time felon in possession of a little crystal when popped. He was also a convicted fence. HCSO let him bounce and didn't think to look closer at him for the other $33k worth of stolen goods.

I found one of my stolen guitars a month later in Lakeland at Music go round...the fence had pawned it there right after the burglary. Did HCSO snatch him up again after that? Nah, they let him wander around for another couple of weeks selling off our stuff left and right.

Oh, and guess who was a personal acquaintance of the fence? Yeah, the flooring subs.

The HCSO detective ( a relative of a mutual friend) , couldn't add 1+1 to save his life, so we lost everything except for the one pistol and one guitar. They had a fantastic chance to recover everything probably and let it slip away. Snatching defeat from the jaws of victory. As a former lawman myself, I was beyond pissed. The ineptitude displayed was infuriating.

To add insult to injury, HCSO held the recovered pistol for a year and thought it prudent to mark it up with red perma marker. I'm not kidding. Removing the sharpie also removed a lot of the finish. I have ZERO respect for that agency due this incident and many others and regularly write in my dad for sheriff instead of the current politically driven idiot who sits in that office now. Sorry to derail the thread, but it still pisses me off 8 years later.

Man I feel for you. I'm getting ready to have my home tented for termites. We are going to have issues because the illegal Mexicans sub contractors you know these companies use today so they do not have to pay normal wages to. Will not have access to certain areas of my home. I will lock those areas up. If the pest control rep wants to inspect for bodies fine.
