December 7th 1941. Just before 8 a.m. on that Sunday morning, Japanese forces led a surprise attack on Pearl Harbor, a U.S. naval base near Honolulu, Hawaii, bringing with them hundreds of fighter planes.

It began with a first wave of 183 planes, followed by a second wave of 171 planes, all with varying targets. A third wave was initially considered, but later withdrawn.

Thousands of Americans died in the less than 90-minute assault, including civilians. Another thousand were wounded.

It's important to remember dates like these. Not so much to revitalize old hatreds, but to memorialize those who have died for the comforts we have today. I shudder to think what all those young men would think of America of today though. I think I'm going to watch the Victory at Sea series later.

Today is the Anniversary of the heinous attack on Pearl Harbor when a sleeping giant was awoken by one of the worst sneak attacks in history. That day we all became one. Unified in our purpose, together in our resolve. The greatest generation made the greatest sacrifice in our history, so that America and the world could live free from tyranny, subjected to no dictator. We owe those brave men and women who fought after America was attacked a debt of gratitude we could never repay. Thank you for responding to the call, and fighting for Liberty here, and throughout the world. May God bless them all, and may God rest all those souls lost.

And as a reminder that it can happen, even in places where you don't think it can happen. We always seem to underestimate the resolve and ingenuity of potential enemies. We'd learn the same lesson again 60 years later.

What has surprised me about today is the lack of even mentioning the importance by the general media. How sad.

It is rather disturbing how this is bring ignored in favor of other stories. The media has truly reached a new low.
