Do all the major Christian groups shun self defense?
GOD Want To End Gun Violence!
Heck, most of the Episcopalians that I know support the concept of "sheepdogs" - armed CCW ushers standing in the back of the church
....and some rin up hill and down dale, knapping the chucky stanes to pieces wi' hammers, like sae mony road-makers run daft - they say it is to see how the warld was made!

The answer is no. The Presbyterian church split a while back and most of it are liberal bone heads.
I am security director at my church with a team of twelve and constantly complemented by members on how safe they feel.
Two years ago I introduced guns and shooting to a few ladies at church. Now it is a yearly function where we rent out a whole bay at Okeechobee and this year will have 42 participants in October. Last year I introduced AR's to the group and had 9 women go out and buy their own after that.

I work for a security company that contracts out to religious institutions a lot. Those people sure as hell don't represent everyone on the whole, I'd be out of a job if they did.
"The essential American soul is hard, isolate, stoic, and a killer. It has never yet melted."
All depends on the location and probably the denomination has something to do with it. I attended a church a few years ago where I personally knew of several (including the pastor, the sound man and myself) who carried during services. If anyone came in looking to do bad things, our goal was to introduce him to God in a whole different way.
At some level most religions get around to "surrender to a higher power" as a basic tenet of belief. So yeah, self determination, self preservation or any other concept of independent "self" get sacrificed and replaced by "faith."
Obviously some more than others. Muslims believe every tragedy is Allahs will, the Amish don't think it is their purpose to interfere with God's plan and the Christian Scientists, well those are just crazy folks who do crazy shit.
Catholics seem to be the ones with the most backbone these days and are willing to accept that protecting family is duty to god.
Of course this varies from zip code to zip code, from denomination to denomination and the key seems to be if the church leader is about teaching religion or is about teaching political socialism.
