Mass migration coming from the south?

In all, 2.3 million Venezuelans live outside the country, with more than 1.6 million fleeing the ravaged petrostate since 2015, according to the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees. That’s roughly equal to the flow of migrants to Europe in the same period. The crisis looks likely to worsen as oil output plunges thanks to mismanagement, and hyperinflation defies attempts to rein it in.
Any blips on anyone's radar screens? Will these folks shelter in place in Columbia and Peru, or will they start heading north?

They'll definitely head here if they can.

Those people, and in Doral, have been here years--they fled commie Chavez. They are good people--middle class and up, many professionals, anti-communist. I'll take 'em.

Getting Married to a Venezuelan that fled socialism 4-5 years ago

Of the dozen of Venezuelans I’ve met, most are anti socialist but due to the culture are scared of guns. Only bad people have guns and police are just as bad so it takes a while for them to understand the importance of firearms in civilian hands. I took a Cuban and a couple Venezuelans shooting and they enjoyed it

I would take the Venezuelans we have here now over many native born Americans. They are not a problem, at all. It is the undifferentiated mass of possible refugees still down there that are highly suspect.

To make an analogy, consider the Cubans. The original group from the early 60s were very conservative, a lot of professionals, etc. They raised a lot of very successful kids, too. The Marielitos (1980) contained a lot of garbage, and their offspring are as liberal as our own native born "minorities". It was a mistake to let them in (thanks Jimmy Carter).

This is what worries me as well. I would agree with the Cuba analogy - the ones we want come early because they can afford to come. The ones that we don't want hang on in their home country until it becomes intolerable.

The UN has reported an alarming spike in the number of asylum seekers and refugees fleeing violence and persecution in Central America, urging the international community to take steps to meet the region’s “huge” needs.

The number of asylum seekers and refugees who had abandoned the region increased from about 18,000 in 2011 to 294,000 at the end of last year, the UN’s refugee agency, UNHCR, announced. That number grew 58% last year alone.

The UNHCR said the number of Central American applications for refugee status had also risen sharply. Of the 350,000 applications between 2011 and 2017, 130,500 – nearly 40% – were filed last year.

I feel for their situation, honestly do because socialism is a terrible disease that needs to be violently stamped out.. But with the Mexicans, Haitians, Dominicans, and every other flavor of Latino and Islander, not to mention Somalians and Syrians, could we even handle an influx of Venezuelans?
