Peeps,

I have a Dell Precision M4500 and I forgot the password to get in. The clock has locked up on August 10, 2010, and without the password, I can't get in to change that.

It has a version of Windows 7 installed/

I also need a new battery.

Any help on getting me back in?

Thanks!

Hey, Charlie - hope things are well with you.

I am no computer whiz by any stretch - usually have to ask my kids for help. I believe that, depending on what version of Windows you have, you may be able to start the laptop in "Safe Mode" and create a new password from there.

Here's a link to an article on doing just that in Windows 10 - hopefully it applies to earlier versions of Windows as well. It's one the first things that came up when I searched "Safe Mode" and "create password," so I can't vouch for it's accuracy, but at least it might get you pointed in the right direction.

Good luck.

Hey O-man, I tried what you suggested, and while I couldn't change my password I did manage to change the clock date and time while in Safe Mode.

Hopefully, another member can get me going full steam ahead!

Hi Rev Charlie!

If you have access to a working computer, download this tool called OPH Crack:
https://sourceforge.net/projects/ophcra ... p/download
- be sure to download the file ending in ".iso"

Then you need an application to make a bootable CD, I use ImgBurn:
https://www.majorgeeks.com/files/details/imgburn.html

Install ImgBurn, then use it to create a bootable CD from the OphCrack file ending in ".iso"

That makes a bootable CD that runs Linux. Put it in the CD of your Windows 7 computer and boot from the CD. When it asks just accept the defaults, then run the password crack tool on your laptop. It can take a while - 10 minutes or more - but usually gets the job done. View and write down the password it finds, then reboot the computer and login.

Good luck! Call me if you need to.

Ken, I greatly appreciate the help, but I'm COMPLETELY LOST!

I think I have both programs now on the computer, but what's next?

Dealt with this all the time as a support tech. See:

https://www-wikihow-com.cdn.ampproject. ... r-Password

Or Google "reset Windows 7 administrator password" for other options, especially if you never made a recovery disk.
