Has anyone tried to shoot factory subsonic 223 through a Suppressor?, I just want to hear how it sounds in single shoot mode for my Steyr Aug but want to make sure it’s safe in a 20in 1:9 twist barrel (no keyhole)

Obviously it’s not defense cartridge but would be nice to see how effective my Form 1 Suppressor is when the sonic boom is taken away and only the explosion noise is left

If you reload, subs are easily made. I like trail boss, 3 to 4 grains is used for 5.56. Check load data first, thats from my memory.

Trail boss is nice because the volume of the casing is filled, its a disk powder that looks like a little donut.

Test a few out on paper first to make sure of no key holing.

Most of my guns are 1/8 and 1/7 twist, Ive never had any problems. They heavier 75gr projectiles seem quieter to my ear.
I made mine to plink in the back yard, I do not own a suppressor. They kill opposum and armadillo fairly well as a side note. Lol

20 inch barrel? You run the risk of a squib/obstructed barrel. Have you considered shooting the 300Blackout subsonic suppressed instead? Functions perfectly in my Ar's.

Only have an AUG at the moment, and unfortunately they don’t make a 300 blk barrel yet

JonW,
I have shot factory subs thru a suppressor like you asked. Friend bought them from Glockpacker before he passed away.

This was thru a 16" AR. How quiet was it it? Quiet enough to hear the bullet going thru wood to hit dirt at 100yds. I dont remember the specs on the bullet, only that it was factory subsonic.

I think I might still have a vid of someone shooting that setup, I will check.

16 and 18" barrels. I ran some thru a 20" a2 as well with no problems.

Theres guys out there running 22 and 24" bolt guns with no problems.

Check YouTube, thats were I started. At one time I was looking into moding 6mm bullet sizing dies to size down 243win/6mm projectiles to .224.
I was looking into 95gr hornady soft points to size down.
