A Mercedes Benz driver has been arrested after he allegedly pulled a gun on two people before striking them in a caught-on-camera road rage saga, cops said.

Paul Slane, 63, was nabbed on a slew of charges after the road rage incident erupted in Port St. Lucie, Florida, at about 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to the Port St. Lucie Police Department.

The victims told police they had been driving behind Slane when he allegedly brake-checked them and stopped his black Mercedes in the middle of the road.

He's damned lucky he's in jail and not in the morgue. The driver of the truck had every legal right to shoot him, but chose not to. Going further, the guy in the truck is alive only because the other guy let him live. Had he been determined to hurt him, he could have because the victim hesitated.

recently a family member was killed in a road rage incident in Colorado. The family member thought the incident was avoided and over, but the other driver followed him to a McDonalds, and ran over him as he walked into the store. License plate and description was reported to police, and the killer has been arrested.

What is with people???

WE all know rationally sitting at our computer road rage is stupid and disengaging is the answer but that does not always work out.
Often a person makes a stupid but unknowing mistake and the offended party reacts. The original guy had no idea he screwed up so thinks for no reason at all some lunatic just went nuts and the game is on.

I have been making a deliberate effort to realize this. 2 examples both the same events type: I am in one lane, the guy in the next does not see me and pulls into me and I have to slam on the brakes swerve go off the road etc to avoid a major accident.
I am furious but having conditioned myself over and over to be ready to not react I simply do nothing (well, I did avoid the accident) and the offending person had no idea in the world how close he came to a bad wreck (I am a former highly trained driver but still feel lucky I managed to escape)

Had I driven up, blown my horn, shook my fist etc he would have had no idea what he did and now its game on.

That is one hard ass thing to do cuz I really wanted to vent but disengage means when it really matters as in you have been victimized and you step away in silence. Much easier to say that than do

Sorry about your family member. A good reminder to be very aware after such an incident.

Just remember, as stupid as people get with road rage you (and I) are just as easily drawn in to massive stupidity.

I had my own brush with "Road Rage" destiny. It taught me to let "vehicular transgressions" against me just go. Things like someone cutting you off to get in front of you in a line of traffic. At one point I used to "brighten their day" via hi-beams. But when one guy got pi$$Ed and started following me side by side to cuss at me, etc. I got the message quickly. Thankfully, I was able to shake him off. But I've never done that again. AS long as I can just get there safely, and it's not a critical error (requiring evasive action), I just let it go.

I think this was quite a ways back when I had just arrived here from the PRNJ and had to remember that people down here "pack heat!"

Had a fella start lane blocking me and brake checking me on Armenia 2 years ago, then he got out of his car and began approaching mine. I had two lanes of traffic blocked up behind me due to this idiot , so I couldn't back away. Not wanting to get caught sitting down, I exited my truck and stood behind the door, prepared to do what I had to do to prevent harm to myself and more importantly, my wife. He got within 15' and finally responded to reason and got back in his vehicle cussing up a storm. Completely irrational, angry, and unhinged. He has no idea how close he came to seeing his last Tampa Bay sunset. People are freaking insane. Not that road rage is a new thing, but I believe something broke in this nation with Covid...something changed.

You’re definitely right about the change in people since Covid. I see it in multiple forms. What did you say or do once you got out of your vehicle to change his intentions?

I told him something was going to happen that neither one of us wanted, and he should get back in his car and get going. I'm a pretty big guy...a few members here have met with me in person. I think the moment I got out of the truck, and he saw I was 6'3" 270, and had assumed a defensive position, he didn't like his odds. I'm just glad it went no further, as I have no desire to be the subject of a Tribune news article.
