Actually, there was an earlier effort that was much more effective than the "Do Not Call" law. You might want to look into the "Telecommunications act of 1991." It still exists and unlike the "Do Not Call" law, is funded for enforcement by the FCC. One of the stipulations in the Act, requires every calling center and business that employs telemarketing to maintain (forever) an inhouse "do not call" list and never call your number again if you tell them not to call you. Subsequent calls by them incur a $500 fine for each call. Of course, that is pretty much meaningless when dealing with the criminal robocalls, but for ordinary telemarketing scams it works quite well.Flame Red wrote: ↑Wed Jan 16, 2019 8:04 am
Oh yes, the Gooberment did step in already! They did their usual cluster F*ck! Enjoying your "Do not call list?" solution they created years ago? Yeah, that was effective - just like 99% of all their other crap.
"Hello, I'm from the Gooberment and here to help you!"
My thread get deleted about the Gooberment Shutdown, Missing your Gooberment service?

Just tell them to hold on and lay the phone down next to the computer speaker with porn playing!
I wouldn't give them the satisfaction.GunsandHoses wrote: ↑Fri Jan 18, 2019 12:08 pm Just tell them to hold on and lay the phone down next to the computer speaker with porn playing!

Same here.
Caller ID is a great thing, If I dont recognize the number, I dont answer.
If it's important they will leave a message.
I did not get one call Friday.

The state offers all kinds of incentives for call centers to relocate/locate in FL and provide jobs. Do you really think that the state do not call program will be in any way effective (other than to give scammer the full contact information of every complainer, under the sunshine law)?
As for the federal DNC program... just another job creation program, in the form of more federal bueaucracy.
I also do not answer strange numbers. They can leave a message.

Sidenote: I switched from Verizon to T-Mobile since the start of this thread(which offers built-in spam-killing features) and the robo-calls have dropped to near zero.
Screw you, Verizon...
