Never give up on those stolen guns, guys
I have a friend moving from Coconut Grove to Flagstaff this week. A few days ago he got a call from some cop in Michigan. He is getting back two (of six) guns stolen from his apartment--in 1978.

Wild. I can't imagine records were digitized in '78. Wonder how/when they were updated into the NCIC...?

No idea. He is not really a gun guy. These were all hunting guns in his youth (the two recovered are 20 gauge shotguns). He was living in Illinois at the time of the theft.Tenzing_Norgay wrote: ↑Mon Jun 24, 2019 10:25 pm Wild. I can't imagine records were digitized in '78. Side note: they turned up in a warranted search in Michigan.

They were updated on a regular basis if the theft was in Illinois. The FOID system is run by the State Police in Illinois and was only in use for 10 years in 1978. Once a firearm was reported stolen the system automatically updated the notice every 5 years til the item was taken off the stolen list.
I don't know how it is run now, but that's how it use to be done in Il.

I wonder what condition those shotguns were in when recovered after 40+ year?

About 15 yrs ago, here in So Fla, my apt got broken into and one of the things stolen was my nightstand pistol. At the time there was a website, probably by Florida police, that you could type in serial #'s and check on recovery.
Anyone know what that website is?
