Yes, which is one reason he has a chance. There was no point to appointing a sheriff sure to lose the election next year. You have to play the hand you're dealt, which the governor did. He's the governor, not the king.

Nope, he can run. Current sheriff is a Democrat but only converted from Republican a week prior to being appointed. Neither sheriff is/was popular with the troops, which leaves an opening for the third significant candidate, Pollock.
