All this over what is nothing more than the flu.
A mortality rate of maybe 2%.
Same as regular flu.
AFS
Actually this years flu has mortality rate of 0.1%
I don't think the rates are that important... Every year the flu kills a stadium full of people and as a society we have a lackadaisical attitude about the vaccinations.
A couple months ago Midway was offering Wise 160 serving emergency buckets on sale for $99.99
The regular price was/is $275.00
Once this Corona thing started they sold out at a full MSRP of $275 and are out of stock of most of the large bucket meal stuff
There is still plenty of Mountain House and other such brands but again at very high prices
In discussing the possibility of the herd panicking the funniest thing to me are the discussions about how it won't happen because logic says, people, won't, who could be so stupid so ain't gonna happen
There is no logic to any panic buying situation. People do not react to the reality of a pandemic. They react to their perception (their wildest fantasy) of a pandemic.
If you are counting on people reacting to reality you are not facing the actual reality panic brings.
That said: no one on a gun forum should be unprepared for anything not because of actual scenarios but the simple fact we know to buy when prices are down as they are now so if you ain't got your stuff you be dumb ars
As for food, well this ain't the Zombie Apocalypse and long term 25 year krap (Have you ever tasted this garbage?) is not what we need. Canned goods for an extra couple months should be more than enough to stay ahead of the curve.
We in the gun community have seen this many times. Sandy Hook happened and many gun people freaked out thinking the gun Gestapo would show up the next day, so a $600 AR was selling for like $3500 in a week.
The panic, far more often than not, is the bigger problem than the actual underlying cause.
“Democracy is a pathetic belief in the collective wisdom of individual ignorance.”
We live in America. If the corona virus gets as bad as it has been in china then we will worry a little. But by the time that happens the rest of the world is in a worse spot than us here. If you live in florida you should already have extra food to begin with and honker down if it need be.
If you pay attention to the end of the world crowd, we're doomed. Of course, we've been doomed for the last 50 years or so, the world ended in 1984, 1999, 2012 and 2016. Next end is late 2021.

It won't. Healthcare here is a lot better than rural China.
Just as we were all going to die of ebloa, which was never, ever, going to be as bad here at Africa, basically because we don't just throw the dead out in front of out house.
It says Thank you for visiting Mountain House! We are currently not accepting orders online or over the phone while we check our inventory levels. Please do not call. We will resume taking orders tomorrow at noon (12pm) PST Thursday February 27, 2020.
Remember. Panic is irrational so stating logic as a reason why people will not panic is irrelevant
It can, however be an endless source of entertainment

As in the plague scene from “Monty Python and the Holy Grail”: “Bring out your dead, bring out your dead.”
Hurrah for the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a Single Star.
