Yeah, 5 years is a long time to wait for the outcome in jail.
Everybody's got a plan until they get hit.
Remember, he had the right to a speedy trial. He waived that right for the time to create a defense, which ultimately was effective. There were likely many other delays that kept him in jail for 5 years. He didn't get arrested for the shooting and have to sit there for 5 years before making his case. If it's a cut and dry situation, is it crappy for him to have to had sit there for 5 years? of course. And no, I doubt he has much of a case for financial compensation.
He did lose his house to forclosure.
