Police scanner
Looking to get a scanner so I can monitor emergency channel here in Broward. Any suggestions?
There are free scanner aps, not all police dept's are available on them

you need to find out if your local agencies use "trunked" systems,
if so you need a scanner with trunking ability so you can hear both
sides of a conversation.

A common mistake that people make when trying to design something completely foolproof is to underestimate the ingenuity of complete fools !
Broward Cty is still on their old analog 800 MHz trunking system. Ft. Lauderdale is on their new Phase 1 digital 800 MHz trunking system. Neither is encrypted. I listen on a Motorola XTS2500. GARY.

Most Broward agencies are going to the new system by the end of the year.
