Your EDC carry knife

Post by Deputydave »

I'm of the opinion that everyone should carry a good knife. As a defensive tool, a possible rescue tool (cutting seat belts and such) and just for general use.

I carry a SAK Tinker on a key chain with a Thrunite TiS AAA light and a peanut lighter. I've had that SAK for over 25 years and it's seen a LOT of use. It functions just as well as the day I bought it and can't speak highly enough about the quality of Victornox.

Additionally, I carry either a Spyderco Endura 4 or a Byrd Crossbill.

I bought an original Spyderco Endura back around 1994. Had a black FRN handle. Carried that daily for over 25 years and it is a fantastic knife. I passed this one down to my son who really likes it and now it's his EDC knife. I also gave him a Byrd Hawkbill as well so he has a couple of options.

So I really like the stainless steel Endura 4 and I know it's going to be an excellent knife. I had thought about getting a Spyderco Harpy but then I saw the Byrd Crossbill and liked the design of the blade. So lately I've been carrying that one even more than the Endura. Nice to have both and they make great EDC knives.

How about you guys? Pics welcome. :)

I usually carry a Gerber. Forget the model. Half serrated tanto blade. I use it for everything. Pry bar, knife etc. I have others I carry when going out.

But, for a long while, I've been carrying my Spyderco Schempp Bowie along with the Super Tinker.

This "Sprint Run" (only 1,000 made, I think) was so nice, I had to get two of them! One for me, maybe one as a gift to one of my kids in the future.

I usually have a CRKT in my pocket. I think its the "Wild Weasel", spring assisted. Been very good to me for the last 10 years or so but I believe they're discontinued and the spring was problematic. I've always had good luck with CRKT knives though.

I've been carrying the same plain blade Kershaw Leek for past 17 or 18 years.
I do have a spare Leek for future.

I carried a Kershaw Leek for years. Loved it. I finally gave it away to a nice young TSA Agent at WPB Airport. This reminds me I need to get another one. I replaced it with a Kershaw Chill which I like but prefer the assisted opening on the Leek. I've been carrying the same SAK mini since about 1990. It was a promotional giveaway when they first came out with the Quantum hard drives. Wish I had a dollar for every time I used that little screwdriver.
