I researched hiring a licensed plumber for my home build. The State requirements/qualifications read as follow:
1) Sh*t rolls down hill.
2) Don't chew your fingernails.
3) Payday is on Fri.
That's when I decided to DIY.

I've worked mainly on healthcare facilities projects but also designed a few sports arenas, commercial facilities, penitentiaries/schools (same thing almost) etc.
I have not until recently designed residential plumbing.
When I have any home plumbing issues that require more than replacing the flapper in my toilet tank I call the professionals that do this type of thing all day everyday.
That being said, somewhat similar to the 3 requirements above, the 3 rules of plumbing I was taught by my mentor back in 85 are as follows:
1. Shit flows downhill.
2. Hot's on the left, cold's on the right.
3. Pay day's on Friday.

Done deal with a local qualified, licensed plumber with lots of positive feedback from friends & neighbors. I'll be draining any sediment once a year from now on. Two kids who installed it had it done in a little over an hour..told them that they probably had done these before, one said "we watched a couple of You Tubes on the way over".
