Heirloom 22LR, what would you buy

Post by Casual »

So what is the best of the best?

Bolt action, engraved or jeweled?
AAA grade black walnut or ?
Barrel, Length? Contour? From Whom?
Ivory inlays? Engraving?

Would you buy a custom rifle from a top brand? Build it yourself?

The 1 rifle that will stand through the ages .

Remington 514 single shot.
That was my first gun, and I still have it 60 years later.
Just about any better quality 22 bolt action will fill your needs.
It's your decision; do you want a flashy safe queen (many thousands of bucks), or do you want a good shooter(hundreds of bucks).

I recall Sako made one with interchangeable barrels, could shoot 22lr, 22mag, and one or two others (.17?)
Hurrah for the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a Single Star.

A nice start to a heirloom 22LR would be Wizard's Sako P72 he has for sale, then you get to pass it on in 20 years to one of your family members to cherish...wash/rinse and repeat...an heirloom is born.

I picked up an "Heirloom" Henry pump .22 last year from Sportsman's Warehouse. These allow you to choose a custom S/N. I chose an alphanumeric S/N with my last name. This one will go to a grandbaby.

That is super cool though.

I’m looking through the parts bin now thinking how hard would it be to weld a G3 rear sight base and front sight onto an old Savage and shine up the wood....

Quality lever action .22 It doesn't have to be a gold plated special edition. Classic America.

I have my dad's Marlin 39 that he bought when he was 13 with chore money and used to take to school with him so he could shoot squirrels on the way home. Someday his grandson will have it.
