a S&W in .38 Smith and Wesson. Bought it for $15, well used. A coupon on a back page of Outdoor Life magazine. Shipped Railway Express. I rode my bike downtown to pick it up. No ID, no forms, and I was 15 years old.

The day I turned 21, I went down and bought a Ruger Old Model Blackhawk in .357.
I REALLY wish I still had it!

Ruger Redhawk .44 mag when I was 18. I funded it, but my mom had to sign the paperwork. I put the V notch rear sight on it with the gold bead front sight. A set of Pachmayr Gripper grips made it easier to control and hit targets at longer ranges. Loved that gun!
S&W Model 10 4" & Model 36 Snub - Duty revolver and off duty revolver purchased while in the NYPD Academy (1980)
I'll be honest. I'm not big on wheel guns. For me, carrying & using a hand gun is all about "capacity." And semi-auto pistols are much better suited for that.
That said, I did inherit a SW Model 10 and a model 15 from my uncle before he died. I sold the 15 but I kept the model 10 and still have it today. I even have speed loaders for it (38 Spc). I only practice with it on the range. But I do not EDC it at all.

Used S&Ws and Ruger Security 6s while in the Army and an assortment of wheel guns working armed security in later years. Been building ARs & FALs and collecting different models of 1911s.
Never owned a wheel gun until a couple of years ago. Dad gave me his Rossi 851 in .38. Liked it so much I bought another one in stainless and a 971 in .357
Fun at the range, but I’ll stick with one of my 1911s for carry.

Old post but that is a super cool story about the revolver. Hang onto that one!avmech wrote: ↑Tue Apr 13, 2021 2:24 am First revolver was/is an early 1950s Smith K22 Masterpiece my dad bought new and gave me in the early 1970s. Was reblued in approx 1963 as it had some rust on it. He left Cuba in late 1960 about 6 months after we did on a self built sailboat and was able to smuggle out his 4 firearms. The other firearms (rifle, shotgun, another handgun) all survived with no problems, but this one started rusting. Still shoots great though!
