How to remove red paint?

Post by N4KVE »

Picked up a real clean Shield this weekend at the WPB show. The previous owner put a red dab of paint to remind him which way “safe” is. Since the lower is plastic is there a safe way to remove the paint without damaging the plastic lower? Alcohol, Goo Be Gone, acetone? GARY.

Definitely not acetone. You can try denatured alcohol in an inconspicuous place to make sure it doesn’t fade the sheen of the polymer, but it’s not abrasive and I’ve used it plenty of times without incident.

Maybe a drop of Kano Kroil or other penetrating oil might get underneath the paint and pop it off vs softening it.

I tried some Goo Be Gone, & 91% alcohol, & no effect, good, or bad. GARY.

Are you sure it's paint and not nail polish?

Give olive oil a shot, I've used it for several things.

Used a dab of acetone on a Q-tip, & the red is gone. No marks left over. GARY.
