Yes, the rain stopped, and the race was run.
Josef Newgarden accomplished something that hasn't been done in over two decades: win the Indy 500 in back-to-back years.

If I'm not mistaken, wasn't it "Al Unser Sr." that did it most recently? Or, Mario Andretti?

When I was a kid the Indy 500 was a BFD across the culture. Now, hardly at all. That's a real shame, since it is true Americana. But that America is slipping away fast.

More people than ever also show up for the Kentucky Derby--doesn't have anywhere near the cultural impact it used to have.

I have no idea how old you are, but if you remember the 500s from the 60s and 70s, it was a huge story across the country--everybody watched it. Everybody knew who Mario Andretti and AJ Foyt were. Good luck getting one in 50 people to name a 500 driver today.

Open wheel racing runs in the veins of my family.
I raced 1/4 midgets when I was 6 years old.
Go-karts, micro and 3/4 midgets in my teens and twenties.
I attended every local race event for decades.

I remember watching Indy 500 on TV every year growing up in 70’s…along with World Series, Miss Universe, NFL/AFL championship, Kentucky Derby, Oscar award, etc. It was part of our culture in those days
