Out of all of those, the only one still flourishing is the NFL, obviously. The rest used to be big news--newspaper front pages; magazine covers; reported by ol' Cronkite; people on Johnny Carson (who was THE man), etc. Now they are here and gone in a tide of other BS. I think it is shame as to all of them EXCEPT the Oscars. Given to the current state of Hollywood, I am glad to see those diminished. If we ever do get into a shooting war with Red China (talk about old school!), if that's the only town they nuke, I think I am good with it (they could throw in SF, Seattle and Portland, too--just spare San Diego if the West Coast has to go).
