Disney owns ESPN, which is part of the ESPN Bet venture (along with Penn Entertainment).Miami_JBT wrote: ↑Tue Jun 11, 2024 10:24 pmDisney does not run gambling operations. Even their cruises have no gambling on board. But the argument over open carry is indeed dumb.George W wrote: ↑Tue Jun 11, 2024 9:08 pmWorldwide, Disney operates more tables and slots than Caesar's and MGM combined. They'd give both nuts to have a casino in Florida.pharmer wrote: ↑Tue Jun 11, 2024 8:54 am 2 things Disney ain't letting happen, ever:
1) Casino gambling. The Indians agree.
2) Open carry. So many tourists from Europe, Asia, who would stop coming $$$ if they saw hordes of armed folks.
Yes it's hot here, dress accordingly (shirts by "Omar the tentmaker"). Joe
"Open Carry will run off the tourists" is as old of a lie as "The streets will run red with blood if CC is allowed." Hell, it's almost as false as "Let's just try the tip and see how it feels."
Yes, it's hot AF here. Having to compromise health and comfort over safety is a dumb choice when both are possible if only freedom were legalized.

So Disney is more than a little bit pregnant on the gambling issue at this point. Among many, the spread of ubiquitous sports betting (through apps) is viewed as far more problematic socially than destination casinos, especially when it comes to the target demographic--young men.
But no one, much less Disney, has any chance of getting rid of the Seminole stranglehold over gambling in Florida any time soon. Decades of delay in legalizing casino gambling in Florida (which I remember well from the 70s) allowed the Seminoles to become too strong at this point. They drop all the right bags in all the right places. It would take epic change at the federal level to create conditions that would "open up" Florida.
