48 Years of Riding- First Motorcycle wreck

Post by George W »

I'm 52. I started riding motorcycles at 4 years old. Sure, I dumped a bunch in dirt, but never made contact with a vehicle on the road... until November 14th. I was on my way to work just as the sun was coming up. It was a normal day for me. After crossing a major intersection, the road I was on took a hard left so my speed was slow, probably under 20. I was the only vehicle in my lane, but there was a bunch of cars stopped in the other lane waiting for the light. As I am riding past them, the last one decided they would try to turn left in front of me. I had zero time to react. We hit head on. End result: My pelvis is broken in 3 places. My back has 2 broken vertebrae, I have a broken thumb, and few broken ribs. I was "lucky" that I was hit an 1/8th mile from a Fire/EMT station and a level 2 trauma center was 8 miles away. From the time I was hit until a team of doctors was on my my like a NASCAR pit crew was less than 15 minutes. Good thing. I had a lot internal bleeding, requiring immediate work and lots of blood. This probably should have killed me.

I It will be 3 months before I am walking. God knows how long I will be out of work. I am currently recovering in a VA Rehab center.

The best part... The drive has no license or insurance. This was her 3rd time hurting someone. She was arrested on scene, but was out on bail before I got out of surgery. I refuse to call this an accident. It wasn't one. This was a criminal act that I will live with forever.

I had good coverage on my bike, several layers of health insurance, and a couple of decent disability policies. In the end, this will be close to $250k in medical bills. I'm going to have the comprehensive claim held over me forever. There'll be no settlements, nothing for the other losses. There's no suing the driver. She has less than nothing. Public housing and $1M in liens from other accidents. Sometimes, I really hate people.

Oh my God, this is awful. I am so sorry to hear this.

On this psycho bitch, is there anything we can organize here to try to get some justice? Not only for you, but to prevent others from being victimized? Is there a prosecutor's office we can petition or something like that?

Down here a third PBSO motorcycle cop just died today (the other two died on scene last week) when some stupid bitch lost control. It is totally out of control out there.

Please keep in touch.

Ironically, my near lifeless body landed about 20 feet away from where you and I met up for our deal a few months ago.

Suzy Lopez is the local SA. She was put in place by DeSantis after he removed Soros-backed Andrew Warren. She just won election running mostly on the platform of how she "Stopped the revolving door" of criminals. I've reached out to her, but more than a week later, Nada.

And this is why I quit riding after 46 years.
Last accident I had, the woman who caused it just kept on going.

Sorry to hear about your accident.

I'm 71, been riding since my early teens.

I T-boned a car into his passenger door right after I started riding after he pulled out from a stop sign, not serious.

I have had quite a few 1bike and a few 2 bike crashes when I raced moto-x in my early 20's.

Knock on wood, never anything serious.

At the moment I have 2 Hi Perf bikes, but don't do much riding in So Fla, a few small rides or some bar hopping in the eve's etc. Just to crazy around here. And boring as shit.

Mostly I trailer my bikes up to at least N Ga, 2-3 times a year, then play in the mtns of Ga, the Carolina's, east Tenn and western Virginia. Six weeks ago I was cruising up there when hurricane Helene caught up to me and my group, we rode her out in a hotel in western Virginia, but had to cut vacation short and find alternate routes home because of all the storm damage in N.C.

Up there my biggest fear is hitting wildlife. Deer and bikes are mortal enemies.
I'll tell you what rule we applied sir.
We applied rule 303.
We caught them and we shot them under rule 303!

Been riding for many years, but stopped after seeing so much craziness here in Pinellas. Yeah, crowded, I know, but some travels before I came to FL took me on the Cross-Bronx, and I survived without incident. Here, it's too much DWI (Driving While Incompetent), or some of the old idiots think "Screw the guy on the bike, he can't hurt me."

Actually, been looking (fingers doing the walking on real estate sits) at NW GA. Find an old Norton Commando, and grin.
Hurrah for the Bonnie Blue Flag that bears a Single Star.

Victims do have rights in Florida. Go to court when her case is held and do a victim impact statement. Do it by video if you're not mobile. Hopefully she will at least get some jailtime.

George, best wishes for recovery.

As a life long rider and owner of 4 bikes sitting in the garage for 5 years now all with dead batteries because riding in Florida is a death wish anymore.
You did well on protecting yourself with your own policies because as it stands now in this country, you can't depend on anybody else to cover you in an accident.

G W I wish I had something profound and encouraging to say but this was such a senseless event that should have never happened it makes me angry and sad.
This person should have been in jail from previous events and never been driving.
The fact your life has forever been altered because society has gone from protecting people to protecting criminals makes no logical sense and yet here we are.
You are on my prayer list and I do hope you can recover in a manner that allows your now altered life to be a new kind of good life cause it will never be the old one.
I do wish you well in finding a new positive life in spite of this never should have happened wreck.

Will pray for you, George.
Been riding 50 years, on and off. This has me thinking it may be time to quit.
