When my neighbor decided she was too old to drive, she asked us to help sell her car. Before retiring, & working for Khaled, & Ira, I was in the car business, so I called a few guys I’d known for years, & asked them what I could get for the car. They all replied $3000. Took her, & the car to Car Max, & they offered $4000. She couldn’t say “yes” fast enough. They cut her a check, & she bought me lunch. I was glad to help, but a few months later, she passed away. Her son who lives in LA was grateful we helped her. I don’t know what tests they did, they took it out back for 30 minutes, came back, & said $4000. GARY

whatever they do it's quick; sold them a Honda Civic that was 4-5 years old, they took it for inspection and returned 5 minutes later with an offer which... was actually very reasonable so I accepted it. that was carmax around Coral Springs or Ft.L. if I remember correctly...

They offered me $1300 for my 2013 Versa.

The cheapest I can buy one locally is $5100.

I received a notice Carmax has filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy protection

I don't know if that has any relevance but thought I would mention it

I just Googled that up, & can’t find anything. OTOH I see where Caremax did file chapter 11. GARY.

They are not doing great but they are certainly not in Chapter 11. Sounds like a scam email, be careful. Unless it's Caremax as N4KVE said.

Gary's explanation is the most likely. But as you mention, there is decent chance they wind up in 11 in 2025. Chapter 11 filings are way up:
