New no lock S&W revolvers

Post by 45caldan »

Well they did it!
Just got an email from S&W and they are now going to offer no lock revolvers.

M10, 19 and 36.
I guess that’s all for now but if they sell a bunch maybe they’ll produce more….

Funny. From time, to time while I worked for Ira, he’d get in brand new no lock S&W revolvers. When I mentioned to him that I thought they were no longer made, he replied “they’re rare, but I can get them in once in a while”. GARY

I think they were only J-frames and, maybe, some performance center guns.

I think you’re right on the J frames. But it amazed me in the S&W catalog towards the back, they have a classic page showing their “classic” guns. Specifically the model 29 with mention of Dirty Harry, & it had a lock. Sacrilegious. GARY

I’ve shot a lot of 38 special and 357 mag rounds through my S&W revolvers with locks but I have never had any problem with them. I have also never seen problems happen to others.
The most common problem I see with revolvers is broken firing pins followed by unscrewing extractor rod.

The biggest reported and documented locking up problems were in the lightweight.44mag shooting heavy loads. Michael Bane documented his issues years ago. I think some of the bigger guns (460 and 500) had issues more rarely.
