started a 2nd Amendment club in my HOA

Post by Ger42 »

3 yrs here in CA have gone shooting once. There are a few ranges on BLM land but people who have told me about them have said don't go alone. Figured I'd start a club and have a few people to go shoot with. Held an interest meeting Thursday which was announced Tuesday 7 people showed 3 women.
2 members of our HOA Board have expressed interest. I am currently the Chairperson of our SAFTEY COMMITTEE.
This may turn out to be a fun year.

Sounds interesting. I can confirm that shooting alone on BLM land in Cali isn't advised... at least back in the 90's when I spent time there. The in-laws and I used to go out to Temecula to shoot. Sketchy people seemed to come out of the woodwork when they heard gunshots. Think of it like Ocala National Forest without trees.

Good luck man. I know our usual instinct is to just tell you to leave CA as quickly as possible, but maybe what that state needs is more people like us braving through their BS to make a change. Keep us updated to let us know how it's going.

BTW, did the people that told you not to go to those BLM ranges tell you why? Are there a bunch of snitches there? Do police actively harass people going there? I've heard of worse.
My posts kill threads.

When I was there, it was the meth lab attendants you worried about. They didn't like shooting because shooting often brought police.

Around here in Crime Hills in Mosquito County, the 2A HOA groups I know of seem to go to indoor ranges with prior reservations. Most ranges are pretty nice, and are air conditioned which is a G-d send here during the Florida Inferno.

I am going to guess indoor ranges are no more in Kalifornia.

You still have to watch out for the red necks here. A few weeks ago, one went to holster his Glock, which is against range rules and shot his ball off.
Ah that's one thing about our Flame, doesn't play any favorites! Flame hates everybody!

I wish we could start one in my development. Unfortunately, too many antis herein. Too many NY'ers, etc. Better to keep it on the D/L and go undercover. Only one of my neighbors in my Cul-De-Sac knows I EDC, as do they. The others don't have a clue, to my knowledge. My next door neighbor is a rabid anti NYer, so I have to be careful around him.

Sadly, there aren't very many places we can go to shoot either indoors or outdoors. I know of only two places (the "Shooter's World" Tampa, and an outdoor shooting club near San Antonio, FL) that we can go. Admittedly, the SW in Tampa has good coverage (both 25 and 100yd. ranges, indoors), but it's costly for a membership. The outdoor range has some restrictions on what you can shoot (no 50 BMG or the like but they do offer 12G).

Unfortunately, we're dealing with county ordinances that prohibit the discharge of firearms, even on your own property, unless you are at least 1+ miles away from your nearest neighbor, or unless it's a real HD/SD scenario. Ah well.
