I carry shotgun or a 300blk and a mp .45 in my backpack.
Rug357 is correct, if you spend alot of times in the woods it should be small enough. I put the pistol in my backpack cause its heavy lol. Screw carrying that shit on my hip or leg. But i do like having enough firepower to drop anything.

There are plenty of water moccasin and rattle snakes to go around...nobody will miss couple here and there that I shoot.

Mostly carry a 6" Model 57 in a shoulder rig. Some times a 1911 of one flavor or another.

10 1/2 inch 300BO with red dot and single point sling. Works for most stuff in the swamp. Sometimes 44mag Alaskan(have to wear suspenders because it pulls my pants down), or detective special on my belt with rat shot if in a particularly snaky area..

I removed the factory "shock absorbing" grips and installed wood grips. Ouch!!

Had one of those and regret trading it away. Solid like a tank and perfect for the woods.

If you're going to carry in a backpack, why not a Remington Tac-14?

Have to be careful due to "crimp jump". Hornady 300gr. is supposed to prevent it. Have a box waiting to try.
