I would never put gun boxes in the attic.

I put cardboard boxes for things like small appliances, TVs, small tools etc things I may need to use to ship back.

Gun boxes I keep in the closets

It depends on your storage situation and the weapons, in my opinion. I do try to keep original boxes and clamshells, as well as CMP rifle boxes, but they do take up a significant amount of space. A closet full of cardboard can promote silverfish and cockroaches, so you need to be up to date with your pest control, of course. A Glock 17 box won't affect value as much as a Colt 1911 or Beretta M9A3, but as already stated, most buyers much prefer to get boxes.

YMMV.

Years ago I sold a guy a 70 series Gold Cup. The box was in my storage warehouse. He sold the gun to another guy, who then started asking me for the box. I explained the box was in my storage unit, & the next time I went there, I’d get it. I only saw him once a month at the Ft. Lauderdale fun show, & he was always polite. Finally, 2 years later, I got the box, & gave it to him at the next show. But I felt since I didn’t sell him the gun, I wasn’t responsible to get him the box. But the guy I did sell the gun to didn’t care about the box. GARY

In the stuff I've seen, box is about a 10% premium. Unless it's collectible, I never understood the need for boxes, but pricing is impacted so I have a stack taking up shelf space in the garage.

You should keep the box for if you ever decide to sell it. You may not plan to now, but you never know what will happen.
