48 Years of Riding- First Motorcycle wreck

Thank you to all for the well wishes.

As an update, I was able to get out of bed yesterday into a wheelchair (with a lot of help). That's was a huge milestone. If someone had told me a month ago that it was possible for a scrotum to be larger than a football (NFL size, not JV) I wouldn't believe it. It can and did happen. 12 days later, I'm about softball size. As this shrinks, my pain goes down, and mobility up. Ice... lots of ice.

Here's another shocker... I can't say enough good things about my treatment at the VA, especially as it contrasts to the private hospital I came from. Clean, with a great staff.

Great news, George. I thought I was in bad shape in dealing with surgical complications this month. Now, compared to you, I feel like a crybaby. Keep us advised, man.

I'm glad you are doing better I just started riding at 47 and I can say the amount of riders I see with zero protective equipment is insane. I used the back mine roads which have been great since they have zero traffic I went on my first group ride, and it was crazy. I plan to keep mine for 3 years and then get rid of it just because I wish I would have done it when I was younger speedy recovery.

I too ride the back roads as much as possible when commuting to work. Where I got hit is the one spot where I have to interact with traffic.

I always wear a helmet and shoes. Beyond that, I've been known to ditch the gear and ride for comfort. I have (had) a great jacket. I'll be honest. I hadn't put it on in probably 8 or 10 months. Since April, I've been on a weight loss journey. The morning of my accident, as I was getting dressed I looked at it and asked myself "I wonder how it fits me now?". I put it on and thought "Wow, it fits good. I think I'll ride with it today." If I hadn't had it on, my right side would have been trashed. The jacket is pretty messed up. I can only imagine my body without it.

Hoping for a complete recovery!

I stopped riding a few years ago when I turned 70.
Noticed my reaction time and concentration were no longer
adequate for the intensity of the traffic here (Orlando)

Best luck for a full recovery, GW. Have been riding long time but not often anymore. Having thoughts about using a helmet since crazy traffic here in Port St. Lucie plus idiot drivers who don't look where they are going. I'm not giving up since no one to ride with and bike only goes out in nice temps and calm traffic areas. HAve been thinking about joining a group but home commitments get in the way. Will hold onto bike though even if rarely ride. Get well and look into what has been posted already about getting the idiot that crashed into you to JAIL!

My story is like most posted here.
Riding long time but not as much anymore.
Wife used to ride with me all the time but won’t get on it at all anymore.
I also plan to hang on to it and will still ride occasionally.
Less excited about it right now even though the weather is nicer but snow birds are arriving…
