Why is post count such a big deal?

I guess why does it even exist might be a better question.

I guess its a matter of prestige for some people.

I absolutely couldn't care less, but on some sites its life or death.

In most boards (and in this one previously and, perhaps, soon again), certain "honorary titles" were based on post count (i.e. "Member," "Senior Member," Executive Member," "Life Member" etc. etc.). Also one gets certain other privileges based on passing a certain minimum post count (e.g. 10 posts to be able to edit your own posts, 25 Posts to be given access to the BST forum, etc. etc.).

I don't believe those counts were saved so we will probably have to start again. This, unless we can work something out with the admins whereby (perhaps) the first X members to re-register are given a "Founding Member" title on the newly reconstituted forum or something like that. I know. I was only 80 posts away from "Life Member" status, but...
