I put up the shutters anyway, because they're the accordion ones bolted into the house and it only took five minutes of my time.

I'm better prepared this time, much more than I have been in the past.
I've been thru many of these living in S.Florida most of my life and went thru some real ass kickers in the 1960s but was not a home owner way back then.
Thats makes a big difference now.
By the looks of the forecast tracking, we are about halfway between Tampa and the 8AM Wednesday line just west of the cone so we might be able to dodge the bullet this time.
Were praying for those on the coast and in it's path.

They are taking an all-time assfucking in the northern Bahamas.
This makes 2 out of 3 years that SE FL dodged an utter monster (the Thursday before landfall, the much larger Irma was projected straight in here at 185 itself).
You can only win at Russian roulette so many times....

Amazing how so many people are trusting the latest forcast, when it's changed 5-7 times in the past few days
It's weather...it changes.
Forecasts are simply "best guesses" based upon past experience. And if anyone has ANY past experience, they know forecasts are guidelines at best. We expected Irma to hit Dade / Broward and instead it went under the state and came back around.
Forecasts border on divination and anything more than 3 days out is in "it could happen" territory. The important thing right now is there is a Cat 5 out there and it "could" come here...or go someplace else completely.

Tropical tidbits gives the best non-hyped info and explanations of the factors affecting the path, etc.
in this case, the speed of the storm (slow) is allowing the high pressure ridge that is keeping it pushed down to weaken and move east. This will let the storm pivot to the north. Watch the video on the home page.
