Henry levergun

I've always wanted a levergun & I love the looks of the Henry's brass receivers but hated having to load from the magazine tube instead of a side gate. Long story short, Henry just came out with a side loading, brass receiver lever action rifle in .38-55 Win, .30-30 or .35 Rem.
So my question, assuming nobody talks me out of it, is which caliber? It will be for defense/range toy & kind of a hedge against a ban on semiautos. I don't know much about .38-55 but I'm leaning towards .30-30 just because, & .35 Rem as a definite maybe.

So which should I go with & why?

Cost/availability of ammo would be my first concern.

.30-.30

Yep!

That's my #1 requirement!

If I cant walk into Walmart and buy a box of ammo, I dont want the gun.

When Henry gets hungry you'll be Looking for reloading equipment.
38-55 is a 0.401 inch bullet IIRC.

I carried my Grandfather's 336 in .35 Remington last year- a sledgehammer of a round, but not easy to find. Check out the LeverEvolution ammo from Hornady. That 30-30 stretches its legs and gets some more whump.

Every gun shop around here that has used lever action rifles
are 80% 30-30. Next comes .35 Whelan, then 45-70.

I don't see any bans on semi auto, but lever guns are lots of fun. I have a Marlin 336 in .30-30 and a Puma in .45 LC.

A lever gun is on my must have list. Just need to decide on the caliber.
