Nice. Better than anything I ever got in a box of Cracker Jacks.
Why not let him keep the gun?

Well, first--GW is not an FFL. Nor was a background check run. Nor do we know the origins of the gun. Etc.
You are speaking of a free country, sir. Wake up. Prior to the GCA of 1968, maybe. Prior to the NFA, likely. Now, forget it.

My wife is smart enough to know if that happened to her to say nothing. GARY.
What a bunch of idiots. I'd have kept or sold it.

They were honest...and now their lives are filled with bureaucratic red tape. Will they get their $9.99 back? Good stuff like that never happens to me

So the guy should give the cops $5 to to the background check, and if he AND the gun come back clean, the gun belongs to him! He didn't "buy" it from goodwill...he FOUND it! Yeah, yeah I know......but that's the way it SHOULD be!
