Hey guys,

I just purchased a Nighthawk 1911 and want an ambi safety installed. NH quoted me about 2 months to get an ambi safety installed,so I'm trying to see if there are any EXPERIENCED smiths who can put on a ambi safety for my 1911 without having to wait 2 months. I'm pretty particular on who works/touches this NH. If I can't find anyone worth trusting, I'll probably just send it in to NH, but wanted to ask here.

I could do it blindfolded, but I'm not a superior Nighthawk gunsmith...

Sorry, I can not recommend someone.. And there is some knowledge nuance to replacing them..

I saw one done to a Rock Island that I was glad I was watching an expert with that model working on it. It was simple (Mostly because he knew what he was doing and he had a bunch of parts to choose from).

So I have a couple of videos I watched back then to show what it looks like (Sorry not a Nighthawk) These are old but they show some of the little things involved.. And over the years I like reviewing them from time to time.

Now this guy is going the other way with this 1911. But a real nice detailed breakdown,

Good luck.. I would like to think they could do this for you quicker than 2 months.. But I am an optimist at heart.

Geez, I need to go out on the internet of webs more... Here is a really good youtube that shows nice details to the work/fine tuning that is needed.. This again is not a Nighthawk.. And is not really a replacement either but is really highly stimulating..

I saw these. I'd rather not touch a hand fitted nighthawk with no knowledge. I'll probably just send it to them.

I think I would be Leary to mess with one with some knowledge

I’ve fitted many and due to variances most safeties are made to require considerable fitting with the exception of Kimber ambi safeties. Consistently drop in for Kimbers and rarely needed fitting in other 911s.
