A draft of the executive order obtained by The Intercept would use the Defense Production Act to ramp up mineral production for electric car batteries.

Should be mineral mining not production. Minerals aren't produced

THE BIDEN ADMINISTRATION is drafting an executive order invoking the Defense Production Act to alleviate shortages of key minerals needed for the technology to store clean energy. The act, which would bolster the manufacturing capacity of electric vehicle producers in particular, indicates that the administration is open to using executive power to achieve progressive policy goals as Congress remains reluctant to pass key parts of his green energy agenda.

The letter — signed by Democratic Sens. Ed Markey and Elizabeth Warren of Massachusetts, Martin Heinrich of New Mexico, Cory Booker of New Jersey, and Jeff Merkley of Oregon — encourages Biden to make the U.S. less dependent on oil drilling abroad while simultaneously supporting climate goals: “Producing efficient electric products and exporting those goods to the E.U. and other foreign markets would help many countries lower their dependency on fossil fuels, and thereby strengthen their own energy security.

So these nemrods are doing everything except what they should be doing to help Americans by lowering costs of goods and gas. There's not enough minerals in the United States to do any of this

Further more it's OK to strip mine vast tracks of America for minerals that will not make a dent in America's energy crisis the democrats created but not drill for resources we know exists and have enough for at least 150 years or more.

Oh wait forgot Biden keeps saying Americans are hurting because of Russia, Russia, Russia. Not the restrictions that was imposed on America by this socialist extremist dictatorial faction called the New Democratic Socialist party that seized power through a political coup of our elections under the guise of a pandemic.

But getting back to invoking Defense Production Act. They used the Defense Production Act to approve the production of this covid gene therapy and the pharmaceutical industry is wanting to use again for a forth shot and to use this gene therapy on children 6 and under. So now they want to use it yet again for something again totally worthless and will instead...... make many of these politicians wealthy. By going around congress and senate because the democratically controlled House and Senate refuse to do anything.

Let's look at some facts.

The United States has extensive lithium reserves but produces less than 2% of the world's annual supply, much of it from a single large-scale mine, Silver Peak, in Nevada.

World Resources: Identified cobalt resources of the United States are estimated to be about 1 million tons. Most of these resources are in Minnesota, but other important occurrences are in Alaska, California, Idaho, Michigan, Missouri, Montana, Oregon, and Pennsylvania.

Where is cobalt and lithium mined right now?

Congo mines around two-thirds of the world's cobalt, an ingredient in lithium-ion batteries, and is Africa's leading producer of copper. NOTE.. for those who did not know. Democratic Republic of the Congo use to be the Republic of Ziarie. I went through Ranger School with 3 soldiers from Ziarie. They were really nice fellows. I remembered Lt. Mongongo.

With 8 million tons, Chile has the world's largest known lithium reserves. This puts the South American country ahead of Australia (2.7 million tons), Argentina (2 million tons) and China (1 million tons). Within Europe, Portugal has smaller quantities of the valuable raw material.

As compared to America's estimated measly 1 million tons of cobalt and only 2% of lithium. Time to invest in foreign companys...seriously that what our political leaders did with covid.

So the United States even if they gave authorization to strip mine under this Defense Production Act would not produce nearly enough of any material to do anything. This again would make America dependant on foreign governments for our energy. It does nothing to make America energy independent and this Defense Production Act to ramp up mineral production for electric car batteries is nothing but more abuse of power and grandstanding. Oh look at Biden he's doing this.. that accomplished absolutely nada to help the American people.

I'm positive foreign governments are going to tremble though because the Biden administration invoked this Defense Production Act. I see a lot of our elected officials getting stinking wealthy on this. Furthermore I do not believe Biden is doing a damn thing except signing what he's told to sign. That idoit has not a clue to what's going on.

It just amazes me that the uh...elected pos have nothing when taking office yet are frigging wealthy in no time on the salary we pay them.

If anything these nazi dictators if they really wanted to help this nation should use the Defense Production Act to ramp up oil production not damn batteries that we do not have enough minerals to help a damn thing.

First Biden cancels all the new permits for the mining in Northern Minnesota that Trump signed off on.

Now he will MANDATE it!

So he can force the mining of minerals on companies

Driving gas-powered vehicles in the US comes at a cost to the climate. Greenhouse gas emissions from transportation account for nearly 30% of total US emissions; more than any other sector, according to the Environmental Protection Agency.

Glenn Miller, a retired professor of environmental science at the University of Nevada Reno, said he thinks the clean energy benefits of mining lithium in Nevada outweigh environmental concerns -- especially when it comes to reducing the greenhouse gas emissions worsening global climate change.

So it's OK to destroy and harm the environment now just to push a left wing extremist political agenda

Jonathan Evans, president and CEO at Lithium Americas Corp told CNN his company is engaging community stakeholders, and local and state governments about the mine's plans.

"It's very important that this transition is done as sustainable as possible," Evans said, stressing his company is committed to mitigating the environmental impacts of mining as much as it can, by conserving water use and trying to lessen carbon emissions as it extracts the mineral. now this stuff is funny. Verses they want zero impact on environment when companies drill oil. I'm some what confused here It's OK to harm the environment strip mining lithium but not drilling oil according to these left wing socialist extremist.

Further more lithium batteries are not clean energy. The mining and waste are horrible on the environment. "Green" energy is incredibly dirty..... as bad or worse than coal in many instances. An "all of the above" energy policy with a hard push for more nuclear electricity would be the best move. Nuclear is by far the safest, greenest, and least weather dependent method known to man for electric production. Until our ability to generate clean electricity is drastically improved, any discussion about electric is moot Just imagine if we went nuclear as our primary method of producing electricity....... That would free up so much CNG, oil, and coal for other uses. We could be completely energy independent, have cheap domestic fuel, while letting the middle east sort out their own shit or burn themselves to the ground and it not effect us in the least ...... nahhhh no money in that idea.
