I keep hearing from people that Pam Bondi had no choice when it came to defending gun control in Norman v. State of Florida (open carry) and NRA v. FDLE ( under-21 purchase).
Since it was her job and she had no choice.
Well, that's not true.
Pam Bondi as Florida's AG had prosecutorial discretion.
Right now, Ashley Moody exercised such power and is not defending the open carry ban in GOA v. Pearson.
Additionally, Pam Bondi not just supported the Parkland gun control bill, she has previously stated multiple times that she had a direct part in crafting the legislation.
Parkland happened on February 14, 2018. The 2018 legislative session started on January 9, 2018, and through March 11, 2018.
Why is this important? Because there was less than a month left in the session. We were already over the half-way mark.
So, she had a part is drafting a 105-page gun control bill that was introduced into the legislature on February 21 and reached then Governor Rick Scott's desk for his signature by March 9.
This massive bill was constructed in 7 days, and then pushed through all the committees, all the floor votes, and reached the governor's desk in 18 days after its introduction.
And she proudly claims she had a direct part in crafting such legislation.
Let that sink in. The Legislature complains that it takes them months to draft a simple 1-page bill. But in a week's span, they constructed a 105-page bill that violated peoples' civil rights.
And she's proud to have a hand in its construction.
Remember that when it comes up.
