A happy and safe New Year to all!

I'm curious to know what your strategy will be in 2025 for buying ammo, considering the push by anti-gunners and financial/bank people to track sales of ammo with those credit card codes, etc, and to report sales of large quantities to your local Sheriff, etc, like they're doing in Kommiefornia? This, especially for people who buy on-line mostly (which I do), instead of paying cash at a LGS (a little too pricey). Does it natter at all, to you? Or, will you take certain actions to try and prevent the tracking? Some have suggested Visa Gift cards. I'll have to look into that.

Anyway, what say you? What's your strategy for ammo purchases in 2025?

I don't think I've bought ammo in over 10 yrs.... don't yall recall being warned about stacking that shit deep n cheap?

I'll probably add a couple thousand or so more 5.56 factory loads if I find quality under $.40/round. Otherwise, I'll keep piling up once fired brass and components for future use.

I would agree, in most cases, when it comes to State/local LE. But the Feds? ATF? We better hope the new director stays compliant with conservative and Pro-2A policies.

You are really overestimating the capabilities of the Feds--which they like you to do, so stop it.

Better to "oveestimate" than "underestimate." I'd really not want to be the "test case."

I live in Broward County. While most cities here (not all) have their own PDs, the BSO is king shit. It has over 5,500 employees, with about 3,400 of them LEO. It's annual budget is around $1b.

The ATF (& E!) has about 5,200 employees, with about ~2,600 "special agents" (i.e., actual LEO), 800+ " Industry Operations Investigators" (their auditors, basically), and about 1,700 "Administrative/professional/technical" (bureaucrats). It's budget is around $1.5b.

In short, the main LE agency for Broward County is roughly the same size/budget as the entire ATF for 50 states, DC (hey, those bureaucrats have office up somewhere!), Puerto Rico, etc.

The ATF is totally incapable of massive field ops of any kind. it does three things:

1. Try to steal some oxygen from the FBI when there are mass shootings, or terrorist acts involving explosives, so they are scurrying to New Orleans today;

2. Bust the balls of legit gun dealers on all the ridiculous regs the decades have piled up on them; and

3. Investigate a tiny number of cases with high profile idiots like Larry Vickers (did he ever get sentenced??) or REALLY asking for it idiots, like this one, who usually get ratted out by people playing by the rules: viewtopic.php?t=9665

So, in any kind of gun/ammo "confiscation" scheme, the ATF is not going to be the field operational agency. Nor, largely, are other Feds (like the FBI), who have their hands full on all kinds of other things. Such an operation would require the cooperation and (massive) assistance of local LE. You are talking about visiting MILLIONS of residences, each with potentially highly pissed-off occupants. Ammo, in particular, just gets shot up over time (no need to say you "lost it in a boating accident"), so they would literally have to house to house it for it to have any teeth. While such an operation is theoretically possible, by the time that could happen we would have LONG passed the "time to use" stage envisioned by the Second Amendment. So this theoretical possibility is relatively low on my list of possible specific tyrannies in our near future. Not saying it won't happen, just that you will have already crossed the Rubicon well before that.

Now being "debanked" by the bank that issued your credit card, THAT is more realistic. But for other reasons altogether, I would not generally keep deposit accounts and credit card accounts at the same bank anyway.

I haven't made my mind up, yet. I asked the question originally as I was wondering what other people were considering to resolve the issue. Maybe someone has a way around it that I didn't know of, yet.

I'm not talking about a general, systematic "door to door" campaign. Of course, they can't do that. None of them can... even if pooled together. I'm talking about individual, specific, targeted hits. They (ATF) can do that. Someone's purchase raises a red flag, and they send out an individual team.

I would not use my bank's CC for that. I have a different one that works. But I'm not as concerned with being "debanked." I can open up checking accounts'/debit accounts anywhere. I'm more concerned with LE showing up at my door, unannounced one day, and attempting to confiscate my inventory for no other reason than they don't think I should have it. And all because I made an ammo purchase that raised a red flag with them.

I tend to agree with Tector about the BAT boys being little more than armed retards incapable of doing much more than murder from time to time.

Addressing the crux of your post... If stocking up under the radar is your point, paying cash is of course the easiest way. To keep costs down, I'd suggest buying ammo on the secondary market. There's a bunch of sub-retail ammo out there for sale right now. You may have to do some driving, but you could accomplish your goal while still saving money. Historically, January and February are the times I've gotten the best deals. Lots of guys spend too much on Christmas and then start liquidating to raise money before the bills comes due.
