I guess I was ahead of the curve when I built this years ago. From what I see, things like this are pretty hot right now. I'm thinking of selling it, but have no idea what it's worth. Just the KAC rail handguards are fetching $400-$700.

It's a Mutt, for sure. The barrel is a surplus FN M16A2 from back when Uncle Sam surplused them to the public. I mated it to standard flat top upper, added in proper rear sight, and a BCG with MPI bolt. The rail system is KAC. The lower is a McKay A2 profile in the proper color. I bought this from Nodak years ago. A standard A2 stock finishes it out.

I figure the upper with BCG, barrel, and the KAC handguards should be somewhere in the $750-900 range, and the lower in the $250-ish range. Am I wrong, or is this the typical $500 POS?

That's a cool old retro build.
My personal opinion (based on waayyyyy too much daily scrolling and trolling of BST boards for this kind of stuff ) on prices is that its in between the two prices you have there. Honestly I'm not super familiar with the lower but if its from NODAK its going to be good. A2 stock sets by themselves are $75 ish for a complete set. $2-250 for the complete lower is a decent start.

The upper by itself I think is worth $700ish based onindividual parts value. They are all pretty salty but that's not necessarily a bad thing. Ill start with the KAC handguard. That one is the drop in M5 RAS. Yours has a nice little purple tone to it which was the result of some anodizing being slightly off. There are certainly guys that will now pay a premium for purple, but they are realistically selling for $200ish. The $400 and up Knights rails are the free float long RAS rails. The MSRP on them now is $418 bucks and when they come into stock (which there was actually a decent amount come to market over the past few months) they are selling $415-475 from most retailers and $450-700 on the secondary market. I have personally bought two in the past 6 months for sub $450. Barrel assembly also in the $200 range. I didnt see markings photos so Im curious what they are? Typical is Colt and FN for that and the triangle handguard cap leads me to believe its an earlier version (probably colt?). Upper is $75-100ish, BCG about the same. You also have a nice unmarked MATECH rear BUIS which will also run around $100.
Definitely some cool GWOT retro parts in there.

That's not far off from where I was thinking... right at $1k mostly from the sum of its' parts. I took some additional pics of the barrel and added them to the album. You're correct, it is Colt. I know at one time I had an A2 FN upper... maybe I took the barrel off the upper for this. This begs the question, WTF did I do with the A2 upper.

I'm trying to clear some room in the safe and have been thinking of starting here. I should probably also do my M16A1 clone (all Colt parts including a NOS barrel and a parts kits that was likely unissued), but I can't bring myself to it.
